§ 7-63. Members.

  • (a)

    The building and standards commission created and appointed for the purpose of hearing cases as provided for in this article shall consist of five (5) regular members and two (2) alternate members to be appointed for terms of two (2) years. The terms shall be staggered with the initial appointment of two (2) regular members and one (1) alternate member to be for a one-year term and the initial appointment of three (3) regular members and one (1) alternate member to be for a two-year term. Thereafter, all regular members and alternate members shall be appointed for a two-year term. Vacancies for regular members and alternate members shall be filled as provided for in subsection (d) below. Alternate members may be called upon to serve in the absence of one (1) or more regular members so that at least four (4) members of the building and standards commission are present to hear and decide upon matters before the building and standards commission.

    (b)

    The commission of the city shall be the appointing authority for making appointments to the building and standards commission.

    (c)

    The commission of the city may remove a building and standards commission member for cause on a written charge. Before a decision regarding removal is made, a public hearing on the matter must be held by the commission of the city if requested by the building and standards commission member subject to the removal action.

    (d)

    A vacancy on the building and standards commission shall be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term.
