§ 27-5.1. Same—Prohibited on certain bridges; penalty for violation.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to drive, operate, move or transport any vehicle, motor vehicle, truck, truck-tractor, trailer, semitrailer or any combination of such vehicles on, over or onto the Virginia Street bridge or the East Avenue bridge if the gross weight of such vehicle or combination of vehicles exceeds the following gross weight:

    (1)

    If the vehicle or combination of vehicles has a total of two (2) axles, the maximum gross weight shall not exceed twenty-two thousand (22,000) pounds.

    (2)

    If the vehicle or combination of vehicles has a total of three (3) axles, the maximum gross weight shall not exceed twenty-eight thousand (28,000) pounds.

    (3)

    If the vehicle or combination of vehicles has a total of four (4) axles, the maximum gross weight shall not exceed thirty-six thousand (36,000) pounds.

    (4)

    If the vehicle or combination of vehicles has a total of five (5) axles or more, the maximum gross weight shall not exceed forty-four thousand (44,000) pounds.

    (b)

    Any person, firm or corporation violating any provision of this section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined in a sum not to exceed two hundred dollars ($200.00).
